Harsh weather conditions of the Arctic create certain obstacles to the development of modern cities and are also particularly sensitive to climate change. Also, the conditions of northern cities can adversely affect the physical and mental state of people, which leads to an increase in the incidence of disease. To solve these problems these cities require smart technologies to become more sustainable and effective and be able to adapt to harsh conditions and climate change influence. This paper describes various smart and sustainable solutions used in several foreign northern cities (Reykjavik, Umea, Oulu and Anchorage) to determine its specificity.
