The fiber fuse phenomenon, triggered by intense light in optical fibers, creates a plasma zone causing fiber degradation. Despite its destructive nature, this research explores its potential for precise glass structuring, crucial for applications such as optical devices and microfluidic channels, by investigating three initiation schemes in bulk materials. The conditions for the fiber fuse effect were examined using different lasers and absorbers, across two glass types. The findings reveal threshold power densities for initiating the effect and detail the structure of the resultant damage, aiming to harness this phenomenon for advanced technological applications.
