The problem of elastic scattering of an electron Laguerre-Gauss beam by a potential field of a hydrogen atom in the ground state in a framework of the generalized Born approximation is considered. A number of scattering events and a averaged cross section are calculated in collision of a vortex electron beam with a single hydrogen atom, as well as with a more realistic, macroscopic target. It is shown how the pattern of electron scattering depends on the width, shape, and relative position of the beam and the target axes for two types of targets. We found out that scattering is sensitive to a number of rings for single hydrogen atom, and to the orbital angular momentum in both scenarios, what differ Laguerre-Gauss from Bessel beams.
